Contrastproof

The terms of using this.

What Contrastproof does, what you are buying, what it cannot see, and the one thing it is careful never to claim.

Who you are dealing with

Contrastproof is a service operated by Glenmore Studio, in California, United States. One person builds it and one person answers the mail, at hello@contrastproof.com.

Using the site means these terms apply to you. They are written to be read once, so they are short.

What the service does

You give us the address of a public web page. We open it in a real browser, let it finish loading, and measure the color of every piece of text against the color behind it. Where a combination falls below the level WCAG 2.2 asks for, we report it and give you a replacement color that reaches the level while holding your hue.

The measurement is arithmetic. There is no model guessing at it, and any number in a report can be checked by hand.

What you may scan

Scan pages you own, or pages you have been asked to check by someone who owns them. That is your responsibility, not ours, and it is the one rule here we cannot verify for you.

We load a page the way any visitor's browser loads it. We do not log in, we do not fill in forms, we do not follow links, and we do not attempt to reach anything a visitor could not reach.

What you are buying

The scan is free and always will be. A full report is a single payment that unlocks every problem on one site, along with the file of replacement colors. A Studio pack is a single payment that does the same for five different sites, redeemed whenever you like, with no expiry.

There is no account, no subscription, and no card kept on file. Payment happens once, on the report page, and nothing on this site can charge you a second time.

A report link is the credential. Anyone holding the link can read the report, which is what makes it easy to send to a client, and is also why it should not be posted somewhere public.

What the scan cannot see

It sees the page as your browser renders it, which means it does not see anything behind a login, anything on a page it was not given, or anything the page has not drawn yet.

It also reports some things a person would not count. Text inside a menu that is closed is still in the page, so it is still measured. Where a background is a photograph, a gradient or a translucent layer, there is no single color to measure against, and the report says so rather than inventing one.

We report what the browser rendered. Reading the report is still your job.

This is a measurement, not advice

Contrast is one requirement among many. A page where every color passes can still be impossible to use with a keyboard, a screen reader or a small screen.

Nothing here is legal advice, nothing here is a certificate, and no report from this site is a defense to a claim brought under any of the instruments described on the rules page. If you need that, you need a lawyer and an audit, and this is neither.

When it is not available

A scan runs a real browser for up to about thirty seconds and only a couple can run at once, so at busy moments a scan waits in line or asks you to come back. There is no uptime promise attached to the free scan.

A report you paid for stays reachable at its link. If it ever is not, write to us and it is either restored or refunded.

If something goes wrong

The service is provided as it is, without a warranty that it will find every problem or suit any particular purpose.

Where liability can be limited by law, ours is limited to the amount you paid us, which is at most the price of a Studio pack. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited.

Changes, and which law applies

If these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them. A change never applies backward to something you already bought.

These terms are governed by the law of California, United States.

Free, no account, under 30 seconds.
